SAN Past President Chee Swee Lee Inducted into the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame
On March 14th, 2014, SAN Past president, Chee Swee Lee was inducted into the Singapore Council of Women's Organizations Singapore Women's Hall of Fame.
The ceremony was held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. The event recognized 108 Singaporean women who, in the words of Council President Mr. Laura Hwang, "were the boundary breakers and record holders, the risk takers and change makers, the role models and the standard setters" and who "....pushed back the barriers and led the way for others." Swee Lee was nominated by the selection panel based on her prodigious track & field career beginning at age 10 culminating with being the first and only woman to win and Asian Games gold medal in track and field. She won gold in the 400 meter run at the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran setting an Asian Games and National record of 55.08 seconds. The national record still stands today. She has been a member of the Singapore Sports Hall of Fame for many years based on her athletic accomplishments so she is now a member of two separate Singapore Halls of Fame! The commemorative book containing bios and the honorees mentions that Swee Lee is active in the Singapore Association of Nevada. Congratulations to Swee Lee on receiving this wonderful award. We are very fortunate to have you as a SAN committee member and past president.
